Chapter 1-ish of the Tree Idea

July 1st
Dear Journal,

It all started that first Friday we got out of school. I came through the door, mind whizzing at about 100 milles per hour, reliving my last day of 8th grade- all of the people I'd miss, all of the teachers I hated and hate to lose, and the crazy time I had with Sarah and Jack in those 7 hours. I ignored my mom as usual, going to one side of the kitchen to get some orange juice, pouring a glass for myself, back turned to the woman who is definitely the anti-me- black hair, perpetually happy with everything, never changing. it makes me sick. Anyway, she was sitting down on the bar stool under the island near the wall opposite of the one I was standing by. Her head was parallel to the table, her shoulders hunched up, her hands clutching the daily newspaper. (Mom's weird like that. She doesn't read the paper when it gets through the door- she waits until 3 or 4 in the afternoon until she pulls the rubberband off of the folded paper and reads the printed stories typed on them.) Then, when I just start praying that she won't talk to me, she starts yapping.
"Hey Eliza. How was your last day of school?"
Yea, that's my name- Eliza. Really corny. I hate my name. I would have rather been named Cassandra or Jessica, names that are more than 5 letters long. But, my full name, Elizabeth, though long, is more of a name to put someone to sleep rather than impress them. Still, Eliza's better than Elizabeth, but Cassandra beats all.
"Well, nothing out of the ordinary. Just your average last day of school."
"Oh, ok. Well, what do you want to do this summer?"
"What?" That came as a shock to me. She knows I just hang out with friends and do whatever I want during summer.
"I was just reading an ad in the paper, and it's for a summer camp. Listen to this- 'Camp Blitzen is home to a multitude of cabins for your little camper and their soon-to-be newly made friends. Wooded areas surround the camp, and the grounds of the actual campsite have been known to attract woodland creatures such as deer and even porcupines, though mostly after dark. For a month, your child will discover themselves in the woods while rock-climbing, going down Porcupine River in a canoe, and flying through the air on a zipline.' I think you'd love it."
Zipline? Rock-climbing? Porcupines? Um, Earth to Mom, NO!!!! "Mom, um, no, not really the thing for m-" I started, but mom, as usual, didn't hear me, and started planning, like she also always does.
"-Ok, it's settled. So, there's the June month, but we've missed that month since it's the 19th. So, you can go in July or August, so let's make it July since we have your uncle's wedding in the middle of August. Now, you'd need the huge suitcase in the attic, and we'd need to wash all of your clothes by July 1st... You'd need your old toiletry kit that you got for your birthday two years ago, a flashlight, tons of batteries, oh boy, we'd better get packing now!!!"
So that's how it happened. A newspaper, an over-eager mom, and a teenager who would rather be with her friends than with a forest full of bugs for a month, who's mother controls her life as much as possible, and ruins it with every decision.
The Sunday following this dreaded day, my mom met up with the McDonalds, a fairly interesting family that I would try to be as far away from as possible, but thanks to mom, I'm in their small group who meets every Monday and the only almost 14-year-old besides April. She talked with April's mom for a while, and finally gave her a hug and walked back to me.
"Well, it's settled. April is going to camp with you."
"WHAT?!?!?!" I yelped, causing heads to turn and eyes to glare.
"Eliza, she needs this. You know that. Now quit whining. At least you'll have a friend there with you. Let's go into church, it's starting." And that was the end of that.
That's the story of how I'm in this packed van, going to a camp in the middle of nowhere, with a pareniod "friend" and dying to be anywhere else.
This should be interesting.

Chapter 1 of Dragon Story (First one was Prologue)

I woke up to the trickle of light falling down onto my face, straight in my eyes.
I hate mornings.
I dragged myself up off of my bed, stretching as much as a cat would. I shook my wings out, tail swishing behind me, serpent tongue hissing as it licked around my eagle-like curve on my snout. As a dragon, you don't necessarily get to sleep on soft, human beds or have the luxuries of electricity, blankets, heat, or indoor plumbing. It's mostly a dark, dank cave with rats and small animals for food, and cold nights on a pile of rocks.
Not my idea of fun, and for those of you who like camping, I hope you get better soon, because you have to be MENTAL to like this.
Anyway, as I stretched my long neck up, down and all around, I thought of the reason I was a dragon- Tyler.
A wave of pain overcame me, filling me with a sorrow so deep that I cried for hours because of it. But today wasn't going to be one of those days.
I shook his memories out of my head, and walked out into the sun, blinded at first from the extremely bright light, but soon got used to the forest below me. It was early spring, where everything was green and alive, where birds were flying in from the south, the animals were coming out of their burrows, thin from hibernation, and perfect wind patterns for early morning flights.
I threw my wings out, straight out, and started running for the edge of the cliff I lived on right in front of me. My wings pumped up and down, gaining momentum, and almost lifted me straight up into the air before I even reached the jumping point. But then, as I jumped, I flapped even harder, and I was soon coasting on wind streams, not needing to flap as I normally did. I was getting hungry, so I scouted for food below me, my sensitive gray eyes peering into the green depths below. I saw a rather large animal moving, so I dropped like a stone toward it.
I loved the free-falling feeling, where you can control your speed by how much you release your wings, with the wind rushing past you and the ground closing in, like how a diver feels when she dives.
I then released my wings, fully out, and after the searing pain as the wings were almost wrenched out of their sockets, thought, 'Never again.'
I landed extremely light and noiseless on a nearby tree, searching for my prey that had moved since I free-fell.
There. I saw something rustle a bush in front of me, and I glided down to the ground to get a better look.
"AHH! Stupid branches! Why'd I even COME here?" a rather loud voice shrieked.
'English!!!' I thought, overjoyed. I even forgot that I was a dragon and started going toward his voice. Thankfully, my head decided no at the last possible second, and I shrank back into the undergrowth. And, also thankfully, I didn't realize that the voice was coming back towards me, and I was already covered thanks to going into the undergrowth.
As the man pushed though the bush a second time, I saw my first human in a LONG time. He was muscular, but not like a buff kind of man who spent WAY to much time at the gym- he was a handsome buff. His short, spiky hair was the color that mine used to be, and his eyes, oh his eyes... They were like staring into space, with dark brown eyes and flecks of white caught in there too. They were bottomless, but entertaining. He was also a good 6 feet tall, while my shoulder now reached 5, but my head could reach 8, thanks to my long neck.
At least when I kidnapped him, he wouldn't be taller.
Don't go blaming me for rights of humans, how kidnapping is wrong, all that stuff. When you're in the woods alone and you can't go home no matter what, and you have NO one to talk to, I think you'd kidnap a man once every few years too.
But, I always did it in a different way each time. The first was where I just nabbed him like- I couldn't say his name- he was. But, I then erased his mind after a few days because he was getting on my nerves, and I sent him on his way. The second was more planned. I hissed every time he got close to me, and he'd come closer, until I pounced on him, knocking him out. But, he wasn't good either, so I erased his mind too. And basically every other man I've captured has been either totally angry or totally frightened of me.
Hopefully, this one will be the one.
So, I tried to figure out how to get this one. Should I just nab him? No, I've already done that. Blow fire rings around the camp? No, I could cause a forest fire. Then, a cool idea came to mind.
I decided to go with that one.
As I was thinking, he kept hacking through the bushes and branches like Indiana Jones usually does, then, despite all better judgement, though it was the plan, I just walked right behind him and tickled his back with my tongue. As I said, pretty cool.
He whipped his head around, and his eyes went from vicious to the size of dinner plates. He scrabbled behind himself, tripping on unseen tree roots, because his eyes never left me. Backed up against a tree, he started to breathe heavily, close to hyperventilation. I then looked at him in sad, understanding eyes, going extremely slow toward him, showing that I wasn't going to hurt him when I bowed my head to the ground in front of him. he seemed to have gotten the message.
"What ARE you? A... dragon?" he murmured, coming closer to me, hand outstretched tentatively.
I purred, and nodded.
He laughed, but not for long. His hand finally reached my forehead, and he started stroking it like a cat. "I'm meeting a dragon. I'm PETTING a DRAGON!" he suddenly yelled. All of the birds flew up into the air at once, but he was staring straight into my eyes, and me into his. His eyes were gorgeous...
"Now, dragon," he suddenly said, serious, "Why have found me?"
I looked down, then did something like a cough. I made my tail point to my throat, and then I went closer to him and pointed to his. I then coughed again.
"You can't talk?" he whispered, sad.
I shook my head.
"Can you write? maybe?"
I shrugged my shoulders.
"Try it then!" He then got very excited and started clearing a space on the leaf-covered ground. When he was done, he pulled away from the area and stared intently at me. "Try it."
I looked at him, but decided that it was going fine so far. (Was he going insane?) So, I tried writing in the dirt. Using a claw, I roughly drew a-
"I... am... a... human..." he read over my massive shoulder, "My... name... is... Kathryn?"
I nodded furiously, excited as he was a moment ago.
"Well, um, how did you... Become a dragon, Kathryn? I'm Trevor, by the way."
I then wrote out a short response.
"I wished. I'll explain if you go with me," he read, extremely confused. "Where to?"
I pointed with my nose to the cliff close by. He whistled.
"That's gonna be one heck of a hike. You sure?"
I rolled my eyes, then wrote, "Not hike, RIDE. And yes, I live there."
He laughed. "Well, being a dragon doesn't seem to get rid of sarcasm. OK, well, let's go."
I then bowed down, and he swung his leg up and over my broad back. In fact, he seemed rather happy to get going.
"This good?"
I nodded. Then, I ran, finally happy in a LONG time.

The Dragon Book (No Name... Yet...)

I missed Tyler.
Every waking moment was filled with his voice, his laugh, his memories with me. I remembered when we would lie on the beach of my lake near my house, telling each other stories of fantasy and science fiction, where maidens of the future were taken up in flying saucers and who fell in love with the alien; of dragons and mermaids who cast spells on town folk.
I miss him with a passion.
He was taken.
On one of those days where we lied on the beach, listening to the waves crash around us, he told a fantastic tale of dragons and mermaids living in my lake, right in front of us. They stole maidens who lived here before me, and families wouldn’t know, or care, because they put spells on the people the girls knew. And just as he was about to end it with the dragon falling in love with one of the girls he captured, a giant ripple grew larger and larger on the lake’s surface.
Of course, I don’t believe the tales he told, but I had to wonder if he knew something I didn’t know. All of his stories started with the water rippling, then the dragon would rear its head out of the cool water and roar an ear-splitting roar.
I looked at him, and he looked back, just as fooled as I was. I first thought that it was a joke.
I was dead wrong.
He nervously laughed his high-pitched laugh, then got up from the sand and started walking to my house.
“Tyler? Where are you going?” I stupidly asked him, knowing exactly where he was heading.
But before he could open his mouth, half-turned in my direction, a huge green blob rose to the surface where the ripple was, and was heading for the shore where we were- fast.
My heart shot into my throat, and I jumped up from my comfortable position on the sand, and ran straight past my love, working double time to reach the door, just 20 yards from me.
Then, a screeching cry rang through the trees, so loud that it sounded right next to me. I fell to the ground, hands over my ears, and screeched as loud as I could, though the roar overtook it. I glimpsed behind me, and Tyler was on the ground too, but staring at me.
And then, it ended. The roar just ceased to exist. I blinked several times, not able to realize it, but then I got up and walked over to Tyler. I tapped his shoulder, and he looked up, not knowing that the screaming had finished. He then got up, holding me in his arms.
"What was that?" he whispered, looking at the lake.
"I'm not sure, but let's go."
We then ran to the house, heads looking behind us as we closed the door.

The next day, he proposed to me. The ring was gorgeous- a heart-shaped carat with small diamonds surrounding the base, and sapphires and emeralds intermixed with them. I cried.
We then- complete idiots as we were- went back to the lake, sure that the monster that was there yesterday was gone today.
Lying on the beach, I just stared at my new ring, and my fiance. We didn't say a word, but he knew from my expression when I looked at the lake that we weren't going to joke around with the dragons.
Then the lake started rippling again, only this time it was closer to us, and alot bigger than it was yesterday. We looked at each other, and ran for our lives.
I don't even know what posessed us to come back- animals that big usually don't leave for a long time- but it was a beautiful spot...
Anyway, we were running, and then, the screeching came. It knocked my senses out of my body, basically. I coundn't remember who I was, nor where we were or what we were running from. I couldn't even remember Tyler's name.
he seemed to suffer from the same thing I was, but we interlocked hands, throwing them to our ears, and kept running, going tree times faster to get away.
And then, the screeching stopped once more. We kept running, though.
Now, I could only hear some huge animal's wings, taking it higher and higher into the sky. I dared not look, but Tyler did.
And it struck. Like a bird of prey, the half ton, bat winged, emerald green blur or a dragon threw its wings onto its back, and it fell straight down at Tyler and me, both of us still running.
Then, the beast threw its wings into the air, slowwing it down to about 100 miles per hour versus the 500+ mph it was going only 3 seconds eariler. It's feet- all 4 of them- opended up, revealling 4 razor sharp points on each foot.
It snatched him without slowing down anymore.
One second, he was right next to me, running for dear life, and the next, he was being carried away by an oversized flying lizard like it was its snack.
I stopped, not realizing what had happened till I looked at where he was before the dragon flew at mind-numbing speed, catching him.
Then, I stared at the dark green dot that was my husband-to-be, and his captor, and I cried. My soul was leaking out of my eyes, and I couldn't stop it.
I mean, what chance do I have with a dragon?
After a good half an hour of this, I proceeded to throw the ring into my stupid lake, but decided to keep it. I mean, if I do ever miraculously find him again, he will still want to go with the wedding.
And that was the night I wished that I was a dragon.

(Now newly added)
As I lay in bed that night, not able to convince anyone that he really DID get dragged off by a dragon, (But I wouldn't either, so I can understand that) I just got a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. I really wasn't doing anything to try and save him. Then, I thought the most weird thing that I've ever thought-
I wanted to be a dragon.
For some reason, I thought that this would help me somehow, and it would enable me to fight the four-footed beast who took MY Tyler. And hopefully win...
Just then, my small alarm clock blarred one o'clock.
My stomach suddenly felt like it was on FIRE, and I ran to the bathroom to get a glass of water. I started to pour a glass of water, but dropped it and let the water go when I saw it.
My eyes- my dark brown, chocolaty eyes that everyone adored- quickly, after a blink, turned the same misty-gray that the dragon's was this afternoon. My nails felt like they were growing WAY too fast, and they started curving and pointing as they grew an inch a minute before my eyes. My skin started looking green, and it grew hard as parts of it clung together like- I couldn't even THINK of the word- scales. My actual BONES felt like they were growing and rearanging themselves, forcing me to fall onto my "hands", which now I couldn't really distinguish from my back "feet"- all of which looked like the dragon's claws. The skin kept hardening into nail-tough scales, and when I pushed myself onto the sink with my front feet, I saw that my head was shaping into the dragon's head-shape, with a eagle-like curve on the top half of my mouth that curved over my whole front of my mouth. And when I stuck out my tongue, it looked like a snake's. All the while, the fire feeling stayed, as well as spreading across my entire body, making me feel like I was internally on fire.
'What is going ON?!' I thought as I fell back down to the floor, panicking.
But that wasn't the worst of it. I conveniently forgot about the whole wing thing, and then, my shoulders felt like they were being torn in half. I roared in pain, not as loud as the dragon's, but loud enough to shatter the mirror. The glass rained down uselessly on me, but the scales clinked as it fell down.
Still in pain, I went back up on the sink, and looking into the largest piece of glass still attached to the mirror, I saw the mirror image of the dragon that took my beloved. I also saw the wings that had just grown out of my back, extremely thin, but powerful.
I couldn't believe it. Wishes don't come true... I was just wondering what it would be like to be one, not actually wanting to BECOME one...
Well, now that the ire feeling dimmed, I looked down, and saw ripped clothing that I was wearing, broken glass, and his ring. My now-gray eyes felt like they would overflow, but I barred back the tears and- with no thumbs, only teeth- put it on the "finger" that it was on before this whole predicament.
'Tyler, wherever you are, I'm coming for you,' I thought as I nudged the door open and crashed though my bedroom's window, wings taking on their first test rather well. I flew though the chilly wind, rising above the ground rather fast.
'I'm coming for you, and I won't let you die.'

Random Book Parts

Ok, so alot going on here. I have to save it here, so you can read it or not- I don't care. But, I'll be working on it this week, so stay tuned for more... :) Oh, and the 1st and 3rd entries are from the same book. Just thought you might like to know.

I missed Tyler.
Every waking moment was filled with his voice, his laugh, his memories with me. I used to be normal. My life was boring and monotonous, the same routine every day-get up, go to school and try not to fall asleep in math, come home, spend all my time on homework, then go to bed. I was nothing extraordinary in the looks department either. Blond hair (straight as a ruler of course) close set blue eyes, and, if I do say so myself, a very lovely potato nose.

Wind flew past me, swirling behind my trail, making clouds reshape into edgeless blobs.
Yea, you heard right. Clouds.
Oh, and I just happen to be a dragon.
Of course, you don’t believe me. Who would? But, I am telling the truth.
You see, I became a dragon when I glanced at one near my old lake house. I was looking out my window, just wondering what I would do on that sweet, warm summer’s day, when I saw the biggest fish I had ever seen.
Only it wasn’t a fish. It was just swimming in the cool, clear water, shooting out of the water when it pumped its bat-like wings, its scales dripping water everywhere, creating miniature rainbows against the lush grass.
It was a large, rather angry dragon, and it was staring right at me. It then, still peering through my window, swam to ground, shook off the excess water, and slithered over to me, claws flexing in the green grass. I couldn’t move at all.
I think it was the eyes that glued me to the spot. Those dark gray, cold, depthless eyes…
But, as I was thinking this, the dragon was soon in my backyard. I couldn’t move, I couldn’t blink, I even couldn’t breathe!

Books

Ok, so for some of my friends who can't keep up, tune in.
There are three books/series I'm currently writing. The first series is called the Intergalactic Traveler, where there's a girl who goes in space, turns into a spy thing, had a dragon, etc... There are 4 books in it- Kinio, Stlaf, Kriona and Irindor. So far, I'm only posting parts from Kinio, because it is the first book, and the book I'm working on for that series.
The 2nd is 40 Trillion and 10 AD, with the 4 kids who have to get out of the universe because it is the death of the universe, and they're about to die from radiation coming from their red dwarf star. 3 books in it- Before, Escape and Survive. Most of the stuff is from Survive here on the blog, but Before is the first book, and the one I'm working on now.
The last is The Supers, the superhero people I've been working on for the past 1-2 months (and the one I'm almost done with). Just one book in that one.
I also write stuff for friends (IF they want me to) and some other little short story-things. But not as much compared to the three books's time.
So you see, fellow writers, I AM taking on a difficult task of working on three books at the same time, but seperately, because I don't have 3 hands, or three brains.
